I.P.L (AFT Pulse Light Therapy)

Non-surgical, quick and effective

Nearly 100% of all people have one or more pigmented lesion. Some are caused by sun exposure, others by aging. Still others are congenital. Regardless of the cause, pigmented lesions are simply spots on the skin where there is a higher concentration of melanin. Some lesions are flat; others are raised. In most cases, pigmented lesions are merely a cosmetic concern, but in some cases, they can be an early sign of skin cancer. For most benign pigmented lesions that are of a cosmetic concern, there is a non-surgical option using the VP handpiece available on the Harmony®XL. By exposing a pigmented lesion to short pulses of visible light, the temperature in the highly concentrated melanin can be raised sharply, enough to shatter the cells containing the melanin. The body then replaces these cells with new cells generated by the surrounding untreated area. The AFT 540 VP handpiece offers unique wavelength and pulse width capabilities, allowing it to treat pigmented lesions on any skin type.

Technology in use

AFT is the next generation of intense pulsed light. It takes formerly unused short-wavelength light and converts it into part of the usable spectrum through a special filtering system. It increases emission and penetration, for safer and more effective treatments. AFT also delivers Equally Distributed Fluence, which means that every pulse has uniform energy density across the entire output face. This fluence ensures repeatable results and remarkable safety. AFT yields a more efficient system for ideal clinical improvements, less discomfort and minimal skin damage. Key advantages for physicians Non-surgical option for pigmented lesions No need for topical or numbing agents Quick, effective treatment provides tremendous customer satisfaction Key advantages for patients Effective non-surgical treatment for a common cosmetic concern Quick 20-minute treatment time makes it easy to fit into a busy day Safe, effective and no downtime

ClearLift (Skin Tightening)

ClearLift™, formerly known as Pixel Q-switch, is a virtually painless, non-ablative approach to laser skin resurfacing. Using 1064nm Q-Switched laser technology, patients are enjoying fast, comfortable treatments with visible results and no downtime.

Dr. Michael Gold, Gold Skin Care, Nashville, TN

“The laser industry has advanced considerably in the past few years, and I believe that Alma Lasers Q-switched technology offers a solution that until now has been considered the “work horse” for everyone involved in medical aesthetics. This is a truly quick, painless and low-cost treatment with the clinical data to back it up.”

Used exclusively with the Harmony XL, ClearLift represents a new alternative to traditional laser skin resurfacing and laser skin surgery.

ClearLift improves fine lines, wrinkles, the appearance of small veins and redness caused by vascularity. It is gentle enough to treat areas that are typically too sensitive to treat with traditional ablative lasers, such as the delicate skin around the eyes, neck, mouth and chest.

Alma’s ClearLift delivers a controlled dermal wound without harming the overlying epidermis so that all stages of healing and skin repair occur under the intact epidermis.

Because ClearLift heats deep beneath the skin (up to 3mm in depth) no numbing is required prior to treatment and all skin healing happens without damaging the outer layer of skin.

Edward Zimmerman, M.D.Director of Las Vegas Laser and Lipo, Nevada, USA

“ClearLift allows me to treat all areas of the body including the face, décolleté, hands and neck; it’s very exciting.”

Bruce Katz, Juva Skin & Laser Center, NY

“The ClearLift provides excellent results with quick and comfortable treatments with no downtime. The new ClearLift technology penetrates deep beneath the skin and decreases the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. By bypassing the epidermis and not wounding it, the treatment is virtually painless and extraordinarily gentle. The Alma Lasers Q-Switched technology is a major advance in fractional technology which has been very beneficial in our practice.”

Fractional (Pixel Skin Resurfacing)

Laser skin resurfacing treatments

For many years, because of the high risk/benefit ratio of laser skin resurfacing, less invasive approaches for treating photoaging have been desirable. Now, non-ablative fractionated skin resurfacing has become very popular, as it involves little or no downtime and delivers great results for mild to moderate skin wrinkling and dyschromia. With the High Power Pixel® 2940 handpiece on theHarmony®XL, you can offer fractionated skin resurfacing treatments to your patients as part of Alma’s consumer-friendly Laser360 procedures. The process is so gentle that the neck, chest, hands and face can all be treated with minimal risk.

Technology in use

By splitting the laser into a 7 x 7 or 9 x 9 array of pixels, the High Power Pixel 2940 effectively only treats 15% – 20% of the skin. It creates an ablative thermal channel at the pixel area — a micro-injury — without disturbing the surrounding tissue. Those micro-injured areas start the process of healing and the untreated area acts as a reservoir for rapid restoration.

Key advantages for physicians

* Safe, effective, in-demand treatment

* Treat the face as well as the chest, neck and hands

* No anesthesia, gels or other disposables required

* minimal risk of complications

Key advantages for patients

* Great results on mild to medium wrinkling

* Little or no downtime

* Quick treatment time

* Easy, in and out procedure

Acne Treatment

Acne is a common condition characterized by obstructed sebaceous glands, pimples and sometimes deeper cysts or nodules that occur on the face, neck, chest, back, shoulders and upper arms. Acne begins in adolescence and usually affects most teenagers at some time. However, adults too can suffer with acne. When severe, acne can often result in scarring. Even less severe cases can lead to scarring, if not properly treated.

Until recently, patients with persistent, moderate acne have been treated with only topical or sometimes systemic antibiotics. Recent studies have demonstrated, however, that certain discrete spectra can trigger endogenic porphyrins that naturally destroy P. acnes bacteria — and in just a fraction of the time it typically takes for antibiotics to work. Within eight brief acne laser treatments, over just four weeks, Harmony®XL’s AFT can provide significant improvement. This is three times faster than common antibiotics and topical. Patients should achieve 80% clearance and treatments for acne take only a few minutes.

Technology in use

Clear inflammatory acne lesions without drugs or undesirable side effects using the HarmonyXL AFT laser handpiece. Intense blue wavelengths in the range of 420-950 nm target the porphyrins produced as part of the normal metabolism of P. acnes bacteria. The interaction of the intense blue light and the porphyrins creates singlet oxygen that rapidly destroys the bacteria without damaging the surrounding tissue.

Key advantages for physicians

* 8 treatments over 4 weeks

* Produce results three times faster than pharmaceuticals

* Quick treatment times that can often be delegated

Key advantages for patients

* Quicker results than pharmaceuticals

* Safe treatment with 80% acne clearance on average

* 8 easy treatments instead of daily pills or creams

Tattoo Removal

Effective treatment for dark tattoo inks

With the overwhelming popularity of tattoos over the last ten years, the market for effective removal has exploded. Tattoos are created by injecting colored pigment into small deep holes made in the skin. Regardless of whether a tattoo artist or an untrained individual injects the pigment, the marks or designs are relatively permanent. When people subsequently want their tattoos removed, most physicians today consider laser surgery one of the best methods.

The Q-switched Nd:YAG is the most frequently used laser for tattoo removal. During treatment, pulses of light from the laser are directed onto the tattoo, breaking up the tattoo pigment. Over the next several weeks the body’s macrophages remove the treated pigmented areas. With the Q-switched Nd:YAG laseravailable on the Harmony®XL laser system, you can effectively treat dark tattoo inks, specifically black (which accounts for more than half of all tattoos), blue and green. Patients should expect to come back for several treatments to achieve expected results.

Technology in use

Tattoo ink and natural pigmentation like melanin absorb short pulse duration/high peak energy Q-switched pulses so quickly that they create a photo-acoustic effect within the pigment clusters. This effect breaks down the ink into much smaller particles that can be more easily removed by the body’s natural filtering system.

Key advantages for physicians

* Easy to administer, simple to switch between wavelengths

* Also able to treat dermal pigmented lesions such as nevus of Ota

Key advantages for patients

* Minimal risk of side effects

* Effective treatment for dark tattoo inks (black, blue and green)

* Dramatic results after several treatments
